David wished Solomon, Bathsheba's son, to be king after him.
After giving Solomon his last wishes, David dead. Although he was faithful to the worship of Jehovah, Solomon sacrificed at shrines in different parts of the country.
Solomon offered a thousands burnt offering at once.
After one such sacrifice, God "Appeared " to Solomon in a dream asked: " What would you like Me to Give you ? Solomon asked for wisdom and a thoughful mind with which to govern the people over whom God Made him King. Jehovah was Pleased with the request and answered: " You shall have your wish. Never again shall there be your equal for wisdom on the throne of Israel.
Soon after, his wisdom had its first test. Two women came to him for judgement.
Two women lived alone in a same house. Both had babies within three days of each other. During the night a baby died, her mother exchanged her dead child with the living baby. But the living child's mother knew that the other woman had exchanged her baby with the dead baby. The two women warangled in front of the king.
Solomon ordered his man to give him a sword and said that the living child mus be cut in two and gave half to each of the women. The real mother pleaded tearfully with the king no to kill the child and let the other woman had it. But the other woman said that she agreed the baby to be killed.
Solomon replied: " Give the weeping woman the child, she is ists mother. "
All Israel heard of the judgement and was filled with wonder at the king's wisdom.
Building The Temple

Solomon began to build a Temple. The building was planned like the tabernacle, and was twice the size.

Solomon built not only the Temple, but also palaces and public buildings in Jerusalem.
Solomon had a thousands of wives. after Solomon dead there were two kingdoms, Israel and Judah.
Jehovah or Baal ?
1 Kings 16, 29-34; 17-19
Over sixty years passed. Four kings ruled over Judah and six over Israel, and the seventh Ahab, was possibly the greatest king Israel ever had.
During Ahab's reign there lived a great and a brave prophet called Elijah. Sent by God to the king, he said: " This is a message to you from God-there shall no rain nor dew in Israel for three years. " When Elijah left Ahab's presence, he was Guided by God to hide in a cave by the brook Kerith. There he was fed morning and evening by ravens, and drunk from the stream. God Guided him to the home of a widow who had nothing but a handful of flour and a little oil to keep her from starving. But as long as Elijah stayed with her, the flour and the oil were never used up, and the woman, her son and the prophet were Fed by God as long as was necessary.
In the third year God told the prophet to show himself to the king. Elija challenged Ahab: " Call all Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel. Let us see who is the true God Baal and Asherah or Jehovah. "
